Hexamine Property Description

White hygroscopic crystalline powder or colorless shiny rhombic crystal, flammable.

Production Method

Hexamine can be obtained from the condensation of formaldehyde and ammonia.

The formaldehyde solution is placed in the reactor, ammonia is passed through, and the condensation reaction is carried out in an alkaline solution. The reaction temperature is kept at 50-70 °C. Its concentration is increased from 24% to 38%-42%, and then the reaction solution is filtered, crystallized by vacuum evaporation, filtered and dried to obtain the finished product urotropine.
